  1. I believe this will be an interesting comparison of student verses parent perception. At 'Meet the Teacher' and 'Fish Camp', will you share ways that parents can increase their involvement in school?

    1. After discussing with my site supervisor, I hope to make my plans more solid, but yes, that is the idea. I'd like to let them know what our school offers and that, like elementary and middle school campuses, our doors are open to them if they want to help in any way such as decorating bulletin boards, laminating, etc. I'd also like to ask for their input as to what they think we should offer them as well.

  2. Celica, I think this could be an excellent eye opener in more than one way. #1- It could show the parents just how much their child actually wants them to be involved in their education. #2- It could show parents that their child doesn't percieve them to be as involved as they think that they are. Some parents may not know exactly what is needed from them strictly due to lack of communication. Just a suggestion, you may also stress to parents how beneficial they can be in the scholarship application process at home and how it's never to early to start planning for college. I feel that your results could be just what is needed to get parents & students off to the right start in their high school career! Good luck! :)

    1. Thanks for the positive feedback. I will keep that in mind for the brochure information. :)

  3. I like you project because it put the pressure on the students to get their parents involved. I think that if the students talk about things at home the parents will show interest and this report card puts the ball in their court. At my campus (high school) we have a middle school fair, where all the middle school students come to the high school and meet the teachers. The students are able to see all the programs the high school offers. I think that presenting this idea to the parents at some type of parent meeting would icrease the success of the plan. Good luck and I will interested to see how your plan progresses.

    1. Thanks, Randy. We do have something similar and just had our small learning community fair for the incoming freshmen, so I will need to find other means such as our Fish Camp for the freshmen students and Meet the Teacher night for the parents, but I suppose it could be available through other mediums.

  4. This is nice. Question: Maybe I looked over it however how are going to reach the parents of at-risk students? Often times they dont come when they are suppose to, so how would you reach the unreachable?

    1. Good question. Being that my population in the regular education program, for the most part, meet that label, I will have to be on them and offer these kids extra credit here and there to get me correct contact information and parent answered surveys. My goal is to get at least forty surveys back of all the ones sent out, twenty from the lowest performing students, so I have hopes I can get that. If not, any suggestions?
